NOW, Lets get back to the story.
I don’t do hardcore porn. Nothing against it - never say never - but right now I’m too busy playing a disappointed headmistress to bother diversifying.
However, lots of my friends make their living having sex on camera, and they constantly complain about the massive shortage of men.
What? A lack of guys eager to have energetic, creative sex with some of the most beautiful, adventurous women in the world - and get paid for it - I hear you cry. Surely not? But yes, it’s true.
Though you might read about lines of men willing to take part in certain viral publicity stunts, it’s a huge problem elsewhere.
Adult film producers regularly hold auditions for new male performers, which they advertise on social media. Auditions that involve showing up and having sex with the women of their dreams. But generally, no one appears.
The reason why is something of a mystery - it’s been a recurring complaint for the past decade. We hear plenty of bravado from men online until it’s actually time to show up and sign release forms.
Maybe men feel their identity and self-esteem are more closely tied to sexual performance than women. Maybe adult content being blamed for every social ill is also a factor. We know young people are becoming increasingly conservative and having less sex than previous generations.
There is simply a drought of young men wanting to enter this industry. But I suppose it takes a particular skill to climax on cue in front of a room full of strangers.
On the rare occasions a brave guy makes it through the door, it may surprise you to learn there’s very little vetting process. Then, even if he undresses, his path to pleasure is often sabotaged by his own unreliable physiology.
Surrounded by actors, camera crew, producer, wardrobe, makeup artist, and a (usually female) director calling out instructions, he’ll often find himself unable to perform and deeply embarrassed.
And if he manages to pass that test, he may then be expected to climax on cue, at the time and place of the director’s choosing — at which point many decide to flee the scene.
Occasionally other substances can substitute for the real thing — powdered sugar or over-the-counter syrup are industry-standard backups — but authenticity involves far less editing.
Women have it much easier. We can convincingly fake every stage of arousal: a generous amount of lubricant, plenty of panting, sighing, and enthusiastic vocal performance. But you probably don’t need me to tell you that.
We can also wear corsets to smooth our midsections, stockings to disguise uneven skin — men don’t have many comparable tricks.
One international performer recently claimed there are only a few dozen men working alongside thousands of women in his market. He’s reportedly worked with an astonishing number of them, often several per day, so clearly he’s doing his part — but no one can sustain that forever.
Men who can reliably perform in adult film are so rare — especially younger men — that they become overwhelmed with opportunities. And if one becomes unavailable due to health concerns, it can send waves of anxiety through the industry.
Today, performers typically need documentation showing recent negative health screenings before working.
The last time availability became an issue, I suddenly heard from numerous adult performers eager to film role-play scenes with me so they could keep earning while awaiting clearance to return to regular work.
The men who appear in my spanking films aren’t paid. I justify this unpaid participation because they genuinely want to be involved for enjoyment and prestige — in fact, sometimes they pay me to participate.
Occasionally they receive travel reimbursement; more often, they cover their own costs for the chance to be on set. In so-called ethical productions, however, they generally receive the same rates as women.
This strikes me as heroic and impressive — but also somewhat misguided. Many more men want to appear in niche adult content than audiences necessarily want to watch them, and basic supply-and-demand economics suggest their reward might reasonably be little more than bragging rights.
Hardcore adult film is a very different arena, though. So, gentlemen — interested?
Want to earn substantial money while traveling the world in comfort and meeting incredibly attractive partners?
All you need to do is take charge of your performance.
